Week 3 Post 3

Following our conceptualisation we decided to proceed with the “Luck Dice” concept. In essence this concept is based on the idea that luck is about bieng in the right place at the right time. The user would need to play with the two cubes aranging them in such a way as to trigger a sensor. By triggering the sensor the cubes would give the user the right time, the hours represented on one of the cubes, the minutes on the other.

Luck

However during production we found that we needed to make so conceptual adjustments due to technical restraints the concept became unrecognisable and therefore decided to persue another concept – “Lunatic”.

Lunatic

There exists within common myth the idea that peoples behaviour changes depending on the phase of the moon, this is reflected in the ideas of “full moon madness”, “bloody moons” and even in the word lunatic. Our project “Lunartic” is a lunar calendar that shows the user the phases of the moon and by so doing gives them a tool that helps them anticipate the odd behaviour of people on full and new moons.

Week 3

1- Space Time:

In physics, spacetime (or space–time; or space/time) is any mathematical model that combines space and time into a single continuum. Spacetime is usually interpreted with space being three-dimensional and time playing the role of a fourth dimension that is of a different sort than the spatial dimensions. According to certain Euclidean space perceptions, the universe has three dimensions of space and one dimension of time.(Wikipedia.org)

The Idea came up to our mind from Einstein’s”special theory of relativity” which represents time as the forth dimension. If you move through space, you really would be through time.So the goal is to create a physical feeling of time and simulate what really time is through a scientific perspective.

We make a net of wires and/or a soft elastic material as the surface,a sphere that is tied from above forcing its gravity towards the surface which gain its movement by means of a motor utilized out and above the sphere.

2- Schedule:
This is a variable and changeable schedule that informs the user about his/her daily tasks. It is like a calendar which has number of columns. The user can choose what to write on each column according to his/her needs. Every one or two hours, depending on the need and the number of tasks, the schedule alarms the user.
This schedule can be used in offices,in tasks that need group work and sprints.

Digi Plant (Post 5 Week 2) Final

DigiPlant (Post 4 Week 2)

November 5, 2009 by shaks1

DigiPlant

DigiPlant is a smart flower pot that warns the user when there is not enough light and/or not enough water. So the user will not forget to change the position of the pot and water the plant.

Alarming Refrigerator (Post 3 Week 2)

November 5, 2009 by shaks1

Alarming Refrigerator

This refrigerator includes an alarm that warns fat users when they open the door. When the door is opened, the light sensor becomes active by the inside lamp of the refrigerator, makes the signal, and nockin sensor will make the sound.

Happy Family (Post 2 Week 2)

November 5, 2009 by shaks1

Happy Family

“The Happy family” concept refers to the values of being together. In our idea,we have chosen two chairs. So till the users are not sited on both chairs, the chairs make sound and their sound becomes louder and louder, inviting users to sit on them.

“Chairs are something more than a mere surface, they are mediums for a better interaction”.

Primitive Violin (Post 1 Week 2)

November 5, 2009 by shaks1

Primitive Violin Other Musical Instruments

Primitive Violin is a musical instrument with one string which is played with a bow, like a violin. The string is tied to two legs from both sides. The legs are located on a rectangle shape platform made of wood or a hard material. One or two sound sensors are located on one side of the platform right under the string. While the user draws the bow on the string, depending on the distance
between the bow and the sensors,a different sound will be produced and it varies from high to low sounds. And if the user wants to keep a note,he should draw the bow vertically.Depending on the quality of the string or the bow the user may experience extremely different sound.
-It is playfull, makes new sound qualities, may be used as a musical instrument.
There are also other ideas for creating a musical instruments such as seven pins on the board or elastic metal plates that work as keys (shown in the pictures).

Concepts

During the week we developed a number of concepts:

We then decided to produce 1 of the concepts – “The Decision Maker”. We have done this as it allows us to spend the most time practicing Arduino and the least time in the construction of the physical object.

“The Decision Maker” is a fun way of making decisions. It consists of a a simple box with lid. On the lid is a button which the user presses when thay are having difficulty making a decison. On the button press a flashing light indicates that the “Decision maker” is “Thinking”. After a few seconds a second light indicates that the decision has been made and that the users should open the box. On opening the box the users decision is revealed by a shining light next to a list of preset decisioons “Do it”, “Don’t do it”, “Ask again tomorrow” etc.
